What we normally do is sell the vehicle before it becomes non-functional. Letting it rust away in the lawn or garage seems like a bad idea. It would take unnecessary space. Taking It Apart

There are some parts that you can take apart in a car. Most commonly the tyres. These can be given to a company that recycles them to make rubber crumbs. So not only is this a great way to get rid of the tyres that cannot be used any longer but is also safe for the environment. Burning rubber releases very harmful fumes, so don’t attempt to do this. Likewise you can also take apart seats, doors and other parts of the car.

Most of the car is made of metal. Most commonly it is iron and steel. There are many metal marketers that will use these metal to build other products. You can sell this metal to such dwellers and get some money as well. Some of these scrap metal dwellers will buy the whole car itself so they can break it apart and use metal not only of the exterior of the car but also the interior.

The interior of cars like catalyst converters will be made of precious metals like palladium and platinum that can be used to make jewellery. Therefore, they will have more worth than other parts.

Donating For A Good Cause

Even a car that is non-functional has some value to it as described above. Therefore, you can always donate it to a charity that would make use of its worth. You will need to make use of the internet to find such a charity. There might be extra costs of towing the car and other that you might have to pay for. So consider beforehand whether you are willing to do this.

Make An Exhibit Of It

Some cars are far too valuable to get rid of even though they are non-functional. This value comes in the memories that it helped create in your life. It could have been the first real purchase of your life, it would have been the first car of your family, and it could have been the car in the backseat of which you would have started your business.

You would not want to get rid of such a precious belonging. Especially if it’s an antique model, it might be more valuable in the future. If you wish to keep a car like this with you forever, then make sure you have the space for it.

You will have to get rid of gas in the tank and oil in the motor to ensure it is safe. You will also have to polish and maintain the exterior condition of the car over time and store it indoors to prevent build-up of rust. But having an old car doesn’t necessarily mean you need to get rid of it.
